Dance of David
2005
oil on canvas
48" X 36"
In The Second Book of Samuel , David, the second King of Israel, celebrates his moment by stripping down to his loin cloth and "dancing before slave women...like a commoner". David is celebrating the fruition of his anointment; his fate. He has been chosen by God to do great things. Not only has he become the leader of his people, but he will return the Arc of the Covenant to Jerusalem. After his euphoric moment he retires to his chamber where his wife, and daughter of Saul, Michal is waiting. She proceeds to berate him for his unbecoming behavior. Women what?
Have you ever had a period, even if for a moment when everything seemed to be in place. Total inner peace and tranquility? If you have you will probably agree that if and when this happens there is always someone there to try and annihilate that feeling or no one cares. So, like David, my man is caught up in a moment of euphoria and in an unlikely setting; a Mall food court. No one cares. They are all on their cell phones and absorbed in their own worlds.
